Menswear is no longer limited to suits and tees — it’s continuously undergoing a major seismic shift that breaks the boundaries set by the traditional notions of masculine fashion in the past decades. People used to think that menswear was just exclusively tied to rigid archetypes or masculine designs, resulting in limited sartorial options. But as the world of fashion continues to evolve, menswear is becoming more inclusive, creative, and innovative, hence masculine style being inevitably redefined.

Huge fashion houses like Hermes, Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana have been stepping up their homme collections like never before. With ensembles that are more fluid and expressive, men are being allowed to explore their personal style even further. Let’s take a look at how high fashion is redefining masculine style in the runway, street, and celebrity fashion scene.

Dior Men Winter 2024-2025

Menswear in an Evolving High Fashion Narrative

For many decades, menswear has been confined to a category adhering to a narrow set of rules. There wasn’t much color nor unique details, as they used to be viewed as something that diminished the masculinity of menswear pieces. The perfect example of this is the classic suit, which is inarguably one of the strong pillars of menswear fashion. It dominated the wardrobes of every man on the planet, with them being worn in formal, business, and semi-formal functions.

Fast forward to today, we live in an era where fashion is synonymous with freedom of expression, a creative outlet for trendsetters to experiment with their style. Suits no longer come in neutral colors and structures. While the classic suit will remain forever timeless, its usual rigid features are now being dismantled to create brand-new style innovations that modern men can also love.

One of the best menswear collections that launched this year is without a doubt, from Dior Men’s Winter 2024-2025 line. One look that really stood out for me is the classic structured camel coat that was clearly redefined when paired with a ruffled chiffon turtleneck. Then as for a noteworthy celebrity look, K-Pop star G-Dragon stunned everyone as he attended the Chanel Cruise 2024 in Hong Kong showing up in a pink Chanel tweed blazer — further proving how menswear has become more impeccably fluid.

Traditional Menswear Influences with a Twist

High fashion’s experimental approach to menswear comes in many different creative forms. Renowned designer houses had a common denominator this year in terms of redefining their menswear collections and it’s how they inject a sense of individuality in the traditional menswear pieces that we already know. This makes the ensembles feel more stylish but still remain appealing for those who love the sophistication of traditional menswear clothing. Think of the iconic white shirt, but paired with suit trousers, a casual zip-up jacket, and accessorized with silver chains and a designer belt bag (Dior’s Winter 2024-2025). Then as for the classic suits, Hermes created a deconstructed version by playing with asymmetrical details (Hermes S/S 2025 Menswear)

On the other hand, Rick Owens and Dolce & Gabbana brought a more avant-garde take by challenging menswear traditions with exaggerated proportions and bold theatrical aesthetics. Definitely designed for those who resonate with bold looks and dramatic garments.

Resonating Personal Style Through Colors and Patterns

The growing embrace of genderless designs in fashion is one of the most significant forces that reshaped how masculine style is viewed. In the past, the menswear palette was pretty much monochromatic and limited to muted neutral shades such as black, gray, and brown. The presence of bright colors used to be feared and deemed as oddly unconventional. But as menswear fashion continues to progress throughout the years, these distinctive masculine style features are no longer limiting.

The Hermes 2025 Fall/Winter Show in Tokyo showcased how colors and patterns can look extremely sexy and masculine. Colors are introduced in different variations and patterns are incorporated in defining layers, making each garment look more dimensional and unique. The usual menswear structure remains, but with more colors and patterns, the ensemble develops more personality that represents the wearer.

Colors and patterns aren’t just for clothes, but also for  accessories. Dolce & Gabbana has a very visually appealing line of accessories that suit men of different fashion tastes. Think of how a pair of classic black trousers can look so leveled up with an exotic D&G leather belt  — super runway-worthy, right?!

Streetwear and the Redefinition of Cool

The influence of streetwear in high fashion played a very crucial role in redefining masculine style in the fashion scene. Street-style fashion is known for its rebellious image, with subcultural roots that make it easier for everyone to find a style that speaks to their soul. Big names in luxury fashion only amplified this menswear redefinition even further, creating garments that look uniquely cool yet still remain masculine.

I spotted ensembles from Mugler and Hermes that are just undeniably cool. The execution of intricate details, colors, and fabric structure made certain looks feel very high-end and artistic. Mugler’s laced suit and shorts are nothing short of genius, thanks to its unique structure. Meanwhile, one of the ensembles from Hermes’ S/S 2025 collection is the epitome of effortless luxury. No need for loud monogram logos, its luxurious design speaks for itself.

The Wrap Up

The redefinition of masculine style in menswear fashion is far from complete, but its trajectory is clear and we’re all here to anticipate its continuous style domination! We live in a time where societal norms continue to advance and transform, so this also means that the boundaries of what men can wear will evolve as well. High fashion will definitely be at the forefront of this revolution, challenging perceptions and inspiring change on a global scale.

The traditional concept of masculine style will always remain relevant and despite the rapid changes in the menswear fashion scene, however, it will no longer be something that strictly confines men’s fashion.
